Charlie chaplin was completely different.. You’re missing Barfi’s point completely. This is a much more worthy film for the Oscars but not for reasons you are pointing out.

The story is inspired from real incidents. City of God as well, but GOW is different.

Agreed. I liked only Barfi’s first half. I loved both wasseypurs and wish there was one more. It was a “perfect movie” by all means.

So cool! So smooth! Unbelievable sensational climax, combination of simple culture with the modern music. Big thumbs up, congrats all the crew members, has my vote for Oscar nomination.

interesting… I liked it you know, and did not think of it as a musical at all, music certainly plays a big part, but not bigger than in City of God!!
so I maintain city of god is better in my opinion, but GoW is definitely a great ground breaking movie
(also take note that City of god was shot with 90% amateur actors and was ALL improvise, no scripted dialogue at all… )

I would beg to differ because City of God wasn’t a musical. Multiplicity of genres makes this movie stand out. Very few foreign directors can actually imagine of musical out of this plot.
